Kelechi nominated for English Premier League Player of The Month award again after winning it in March

SUPER Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has once again been nominated for the English Premier League Player of The Month award for April in recognition of his scintillating form that saw him score another goal last night.

Kelechi, 24, was voted the English Premier League Player of the Month for March on the back of his great scoring form which saw him find the back of the net five times during the month. Last night, he scored again when his club Leicester City lost 2-4 at home to Newcastle United, getting his May campaign going too.

In addition to being up for April player of the month, Kelechi has also been nominated for the Budweiser Goal of the Month award. His strike against Palace, where he cut inside on his left foot and blasted the ball past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, is adjudged to be one of the top eight goals scored in England during the course of April.

Due to his impressive form in 2021, Leicester manager Brendan Rogers started Iheanacho in all his side’s five league matches last month, with The Foxes winning two, drawing one and losing two to earn seven points from a possible 15. Kelechi scored a total of four goals and grabbed another two assists in the month under review.

Currently in red hot form, Iheanacho scored a brace in his side 3-2 loss to West Ham United and was also on target in back-to-back matches against West Brom and Crystal Palace. With his four goals and two assists against Crystal Palace and Southampton, Iheanacho contributed to 75% of the goals scored by Leicester City last month.

Should Iheanacho win the award, he will join former West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie as the second Nigerian to claim the title twice in the same season. So far, Odemwingie remains the most successful Nigerian to win the Premier League Player of the Month award, clinching it three times.
