Uzoho looks to impress Clarence Seedorf as he takes over as Deportivo La Coruna's new coach

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will be managed by former Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf at his club Deportivo La Coruna as he seeks to get regular football in the hope that it will earn him Nigeria's number one shirt ahead of the World Cup.

Uzoho, 20, burst on to the scene earlier this season after coach Pepe Mel elevated him from the second team and made him first choice.  After two brilliant La Liga performances, Uzoho got invited the Super eagles camp, where he manned goal during the second half in a friendly against Argentina, keeping a clean sheet in the process.

However, a string of poor results in the Spanish league led to Mel being fired and replaced with Cristobal Parralo, who relegated Uzoho back to the second team. Now, less than four months in charge of the side, Parralo has been sacked too following Friday’s 5-0 hammering of the club by Real Sociedad.

Earlier today, Deportivo appointed Seedorf as its new coach and Uzoho will be looking to impress the Dutchman enough to regain the club's number one shirt. Seedorf, 41 a former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan star, will be in charge of the side until the end of the season.

He has only had two previous short and unsuccessful spells as a coach when he managed AC Milan for 22 matches from January to June 2014. He also spent 14 matches at the helm of Shenzhen in the Chinese second division from July to December 2016.

As a powerful and athletic midfielder Seedorf remains the only player in history to have won the Champions League with three different clubs. He also won league titles in three different countries.

Deportivo won just two of the 13 La Liga games since Parralo came on board and the new coach may decide to revert back to Uzoho in a bid to avoid relegation. Uzoho, who is looking to man goal for Nigeria at the World Cup, will be hoping to now get a good run in the side to boost his chances of getting the number one shirt.

During the January transfer window, Deportivo sent Romanian international goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, who was on loan from English Premiership side Watford out to Nottingham Forest in the English Championship. This has resulted in Uzoho climbing up the rankings at the club and with the sacking of the coach and the appointment of Seedrof, he may get a new lease of life.
