Rohr warns Ahmed Musa that he needs to find a club if he wants to remain part of the Eagles

SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has told Ahmed Musa that he needs to sort out his club career ahead of next month's African Nations Cup qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho if he wants to be part of the squad.

Earlier this week, Musa's planned move to struggling English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion (WBA), fell through at the last minute. Although  WBA manager Sam Allardyce was impressed with Musa's fitness levels, the club decided that it had better players in the wide forward positions.

Musa, 28, has been without a club since October when he parted ways with Saudi Arabian side Al Nass by mutual agreement. Although several European clubs have made enquiries about the winger, nothing has happened and it is almost certain that Musa will now miss next month's qualifiers as he is unlikely to be match fit.

Mr Rohr said: “We are in touch with our captain, he is in the United Kingdom now. It's not so easy to change during the season but he is free to sign where he wants and there’s no obligation to respect the transfer window for him because he was free already.

“I am very hopeful that he can sign in the next few days, he wanted to come back to Europe and to play in England so it’s not easy during the season but I’m hopeful that he can sign in the club, it’s very important that everybody is playing in their clubs. It’s a long time that he didn’t play, I think since October, so he needs now to come back in the rhythm of the matches.”

With Nigeria having a plethora of wide players to chose form, Mr Rohr would not be able to justify selecting the match-rust Musa for next month's games. Among the players he has to chose from include Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu, Ademola Lookman and Chidera Ejuke, although Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, is out with a groin injury.
