NIGERIA'S Super Eagles are poised to play Ukraine's national team in a friendly match on March 27 as part of the continued build-up towards the World Cup taking place in Russia in June this year.
On June 16, Nigeria kicks off her World Cup campaign against Croatia and will later face Iceland and Argentina, who have also been drawn alongside the Eagles in Group D. To get his wards fully prepared for the tournament, Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has said he needs about five or six pre-Wold Cup friendly games.
There will be two Fifa friendly windows on March and the Eagles are already earmarked to play Poland in the city of Wroclaw on March 23. Plans are now being finalised to play Ukraine on March 27, although the venue is yet to be decided and it is not yet clear if the Ukrainians will host the match or if it will take place in a neutral venue like London or Paris.
Earlier this week, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the Eagles will be playing England at Wembley on June 2 in a second set of friendlies. With three games already sorted, the NFF is looking to arrange a few more, especially a home game on May 27, which will be the Eagles' send-off match before departing for Russia.
