Arsenal offer Iwobi new contract amid fears that his value may soar after successful World Cup

ENGLISH Premiership giants Arsenal have offered Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi a new contract and are hoping that he signs it before next summer's World Cup when he will likely become more expensive.

Now a regular for both club and country, Iwobi only signed a new deal with the Gunners last year but his stick has since risen. Iwobi, 21, will have another three years left on his current deal at the end of the campaign but the Arsenal board is keen to reward him with a bumper new contract.

Apparently, talks have begun between the club and the player’s representatives. Iwobi signed a five-year deal worth £30,000-a-week in October 2016 but any fresh terms will have to reflect his progress made over the last 12 months.

A Hale End Academy product, Iwobi's wage demands could prove a possible stumbling block to the talks though as he wants to earn the same amount as other first-team regulars. Iwobi, who has made 74 appearances for Arsenal's first-team, scoring seven goals and notching 12 assists since his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015, currently pockets £1.56m every year.
