Stoke City sell Etebo to Turkish giants Galatasaray subject to medical for undisclosed sum

SUPER Eagles midfielder Ogene Etebo has agreed a deal to join Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray from English Championship side Stoke City subject to a medical and should be unveiled over the next few days.

Etebo, 24, joined Stoke City at the start of the 2018/19 season and last season was sent out on loan to Spanish La Liga side Getafe. Etebo played 11 times for Getafe scoring once against Eibar but the club decided against activating their purchase option, so he has now decided to move to Turkey.

Currently on his way to Istanbul to link up with his new club, Etebo is expected to be unveiled to the fans and media later this week. A former Warri Wolves player, Etebo shares the same agent as compatriot Henry Onyekuru, who has enjoyed two different loan spells with Galatasaray over the last few seasons.

Onyekuru, however, has returned to his parent club Monaco un France for the 2019/20 season, so the two Super Eagles will not be playing alongside each other. Galatasaray had been on Etebo's trail for more than three years and attempted to sign him before his move to Stoke City in 2018.

Stoke recently signed former Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi, so appear to no longer require the services of Etebo. Regarded as one of the teams best placed to gain promotion to the English Premier League at the end of the season, Stoke are building a team capable of winning the Championship.
