Sheffield United step up interest in Super Eagles' Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis

ENGLISH Premier League side Sheffield United have stepped up their interest in Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis with a view to signing him from Belgian side Club Brugge ahead of the forthcoming season.

Last season, Sheffield United known as the Blades, finished in ninth place, just missing out on European qualification and are hoping to do better during the next campaign. To achieve this, however, the club needs to strengthen its forward line, so has drawn up a list of four strikers it is targeting over the coming weeks.

Denis, 22, is one of the quartet that also includes Reading's Yakou Meite, Liverpool's Rhian Brewster and West Bromwich Albion's Oliver Burke. Sheffield United are currently short on striking options ahead of their pre-season friendly against Derby County due to Callum Robinson and David McGoldrick's being with the Republic of Ireland national team while Oli McBurnie is unavailable for selection due to injury.

Although Dennis is an important player for Club Brugge, the Belgian champions are willing to listen to offers for the Nigerian who is valued at more than €20m. Dennis has got off to a flying start in the new Belgian season, setting up the opening goal in Club Brugge's 2-1 victory over Racing Genk on Sunday.

He has already been linked with possible moves to top-flight teams in Germany, Italy and Spain this summer. Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has also been keeping tabs on Dennis and is expected to give him some playing time in the two Nigeria friendlies scheduled to take place later this month.
