Maja prefers joining West Ham to Glasgow Rangers as it will enhance his Super Eagles chances

BORDEAUX striker Josh Maja has revealed that he would rather join West Ham than Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers as playing in the English Premier League will enhance his chances of featuring for the Super Eagles.

Maja, 21, who once played for Sunderland in the third tier of English football, scored nine goals and provided three assists for his French club Bordeaux last season. This fine form has not only attracted the attention of Super Eagles head coach but also brought him to the notice of several clubs, with West Ham and Rangers both making enquiries about the player.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers could be without Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, as he is the subject of a lot of enquiries, so they are looking to strengthen upfront to add to the duo of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten recently signed. Maja is wanted by both Rangers and West ham, whose manager David Moyes worked with him at Sunderland.

However, Maja said he prefers to move to the English Premier League, fearing that a move to the Scottish Premiership could affect his chances of regularly playing for the Nigerian national team. Maja moved to France in January 2019 and it is highly likely he will return to England soon as apart from the Hammers, Tottenham Hotspur watched him nine times during the first-half of the 2018/19 campaign.

Maja made his debut for Nigeria in September last year when he came on as an injury time substitute for Victor Osimhen in a 2-2 draw against Ukraine. He is hoping to establish himself as a Super Eagles regular in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup.
