Figures on how much crude oil is produced by each state

Ayo Akinfe

Improve your knowledge of Nigeria and her crude oil industry:

Nigeria's oil producing states

Akwa Ibom - 504,000 barrels a day
Delta - 346,000 barrels a day
Rivers - 344,000 barrels a day
Bayelsa 290,000 barrels a day
Ondo - 60,000 barrels a day
Lagos 40,000 barrels a day
Edo - 33,000 barrels a day
Imo - 17,000 barrels a day
Abia - 11,000 barrels a day
Anambra - 3,000 barrels a day
Cross River - No longer an oil producing state after its oil wells were ceded to Akwa Ibom

Bear in mind this chart was compiled when output was below 2m barrels as a result of insurgency in the Niger Delta. Now that the wells are coming on stream, the figures for Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta will be higher.

Rivers State in particular will see a much larger figure and assume its place as the second highest producer. There are no production problems in any of the other sates at the moment so their figures by and large will remain unaffected.

Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa States account for over 85% of Nigeria's crude oil output. I n terms of geo-political zones, this is how it works out:

South-south - 1.51m barrels (92%)
Southwest - 100,000 barrels (6.13%)
Southeast - 31,000 barrels (1.9%)
