Former Liverpool target Chidozie Awaziem nominated for Leganes Player Of The Season

SUPER Eagles centreback and former Liverpool target Chidozie Awaziem has been nominated for the Leganes Player Of The Season after an outstanding campaign that has seen him become a first choice at the Spanish club where he is currently on loan.

Awaziem, 23, joined Portuguese club Porto in 2014 as teenager from Nigerian side El-Kanemi Warriors and has since been sent out on loan to several teams across Europe. This season, Awaziem is playing in the Spanish league with Leganes, alongside compatriot Kenneth Omeruo and during that period has established himself as a Super Eagles regular too.

Following his amazing performance in the La Liga and cup games this season, Awaziem has been nominated by the club as its best player for the campaign. He has played in various positions for the club over the season, including as centre back, right full back and as defensive midfielder.

Awaziem was nominated alongside four other players including Oscar, Recio and Rodriguez and the club's fans have been asked to start voting for who they believe deserves the award. Awaziem who has also played in French Lique One for Nantes is expected to return to his parent club Porto at the end of the season.

Back in 2017, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was very keen on taking Awaziem to Anfield but nothing came of the move. Now that Awaziem is likely to meet the Home Office 75% criteria enabling him to play in England, there could be another bid.

Liverpool will be looking to shore up their defence next season as the Reds seek to defend their title against several resurgent rivals. Already, the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United are already showing that they will be mounting a fierce challenge to Liverpool in the Premier League next season.
