Orji Kalu urges Ndigbo to support Buhari in 2019 so they can produce the next president in 2023

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) leader and former Abia State governor Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has predicted that Ndigbo will produce Nigeria's president come 2023 after President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office.

Over recent years, many Igbos have questioned their future in Nigeria amid claims that they are marginalised and kept far away from the corridors of power. Since the return to democratic rule in 199, no Igbo has ever been elected president or vice president and this has fuelled calls for secession and the creation of an independent nation state.

Since President Buhari assumed office in 2015, these calls have become strident with widespread demonstrations held demanding the recreation of the defunct state of Biafra. Igbo elders, however, have been calling for caution, warning that their future rests within a united Nigeria and antagonising all other ethnic groups will not serve them well in the future.

Adding his voice to the calls for reason, Chief Kalu has urged Ndigbo to support President Buhari and his re-election to achieve the dream of an Igbo presidency in 2023. He admonished them to learn from their past political experience.

According to Chief Kalu, who spoke in Umuahia during the  annual harvest of St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, the future of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics is brighter now in APC than ever before. He insisted that producing an Igbo president  is a task every true Igbo indigene must key into, just as he noted that the APC is the best platform to achieve the dream.

Chief Kalu said:  “The future of Ndigbo is brightest today in APC. Once Buhari finishes his second tenure, I am assuring you that either I  or any other Igbo man stands a better chance of becoming the president of Nigeria.

"The right thing to do is to work for the presidency as we don’t need any other thing than the office of the president. If you see what I have done in our villages as governor, you will know what will happen if somebody like me becomes the president and you know that the entire Nigeria will be developed."

He added that this is why the APC is working very hard to win the Anambra State elections taking place later this month.  Pointing out that he believes he is up for the job of president, Chief Kalu said he in good health and is very capable as he understands Nigeria’s macro and micro economics.
