2Baba appointed as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ambassador

NIGERIAN Afrobeat musician Innocent Idibia popularly known as Tuface has been appointed as the new United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ambassador.

 

Tuface Idiba 44, is one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists in Africa, is also known as 2Baba. Taking to his Instagram page to announce his appointment, Idiba added that the appointment will deepen his commitment to supporting the efforts of UNHCR.

 

“I am honoured and humbled by my new appointment as a regional goodwill ambassador of UNHCR. Thanks for the recognition, this will no doubt deepen my commitment to supporting the effort of UNHCR personnel and volunteers who are on ground every day, working hard to provide support and hope to millions of forcefully displaced persons across the world."

 

He expressed gratitude for the recognition and appointment. Tuface further commended the donors and supporters of the cause to help displaced persons around the world.

 

Since 2009, Nigeria has been battling with Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast of the country and the crisis has created the largest number of internally displaced persons (IDP) on earth. There are currently over 2.5m IDPs in Nigeria, with over 550,000 IDPs in Cameroon, Chad and Niger and 240,000 refugees in the four countries.
