Proprietess of Aba nursery and primary school arrested for defying coronavirus lockdown

ABIA State government has arrested the proprietess of Aba private nursery and primary school the Blessed Child Study Centre Blessing Chukwu for operating her business in violation of the coronavirus lockdown order.

Like most of Nigeria's other states, Abia has closed all of its schools in response to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Mrs Chukwu has been operating her school located on Clifford Road in Aba in total violation of the lockdown order of the Abia Inter Ministerial Committee on Covid-19.

Apparently, she was caught by a team from the Aba South Area Inspectorate of Education, while she was teaching a group of 17 pupils in an unventilated classroom without observing social distancing. As a result, he school has been sealed on the instructions of the Abia State commissioner for education, Dr Nwangwa.

Abia State's ministry of education had repeatedly warned proprietors of private schools and stakeholders in the education sector not to toy with the lives of school children in a bid to make quick money. Abia State has suffered from 221 cases of coronavirus, of which there have been three fatalities.
