Rivers high court refrains Victor Giadom from parading himself as APC chairman

NIGERIA'S ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into further turmoil after a Rivers State high court granted an ex parte order restraining deputy national secretary Victor Giadom from parading himself as party chairman.

Over the last week, the APC has been thrown into crisis after the Court of Appeal upheld a judgement suspending Mr Oshiomhole as party chairman. Under the dictates of the party’s constitution, one of its vice chairmen should take over and the APC national working committee (NWC) subsequently named former Oyo State governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi as acting chairman.

However, Chief Giadom, the party’s deputy national secretary insists that he is the acting national chairman. Chief Giadom’s lawyer, Wole Afolabi, insisted that a court order of issued on March 16 by Justice Bature that his client acts as the national chairman following the then suspension of Mr Oshiomhole remains valid.

Yesterday, however, a court ordered Chief Giadom to stop parading himself as national chairman. Presiding judge, Justice Florence Fibresima ruled that Chief Giadom is not qualified to act as the party’s chairman, having resigned as deputy national secretary in 2018 to contest the 2019 general election as deputy governor of Rivers State.

According to the court, following his resignation in 2018, Chief Giadom is no longer a member of the APC's NWC. He was also barred by the court from taking any action on behalf of the party in the capacity of national chairman or acting national chairman of the APC.

Last Wednesday, Chief Giadom arrived at the APC’s national secretariat in where he held a press conference, declaring himself as the authentic acting national chairman. Things for messier when the party's vice chairman, South-South, Prince Hilliard Eta, took over as acting national chairman and sacked Chief Giadom as deputy national secretary.
