ENGLISH Premiership giants Arsenal have agreed to purchase Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru from Belgian clubside KAS Eupen for £6.8m as part of a drive to strengthen its attack ahead of the forthcoming season.

Onyekuru, 19, finished the 2016/17 season as joint top-scorer in the Belgain Juliper League with 22 goals. His exploits have already caught the attention of the national team earning Onyekuru a recent invitation from Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr where her featured in Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Corsica last week.

Highly sought after across Europe, Onyekuru has been the subject of a lot of speculation recently but it appears that Arsenal have now beaten all other clubs to his signature. Personal terms have not yet been agreed with the player's representatives but he is an avid Arsenal fan and understood to be keen on the move.

Among the English Premiership clubs that had been interested in signing the marksman were Everton, Southampton, West Ham and West Brom. He is said to have a £6.8m release clause in his contract and has already turned down moves to Belgian giants Brugge and Anderlecht.

Celtic are also understood to have come close to signing Onyekuru in January but Eupen refused to sell him during the winter transfer window. Two years ago, Onyekuru made his debut for Eupen in 2015 as a 17-year-old and helped the club achieve promotion to the Belgian top flight in his debut season.

He is currently on international duty with Nigeria, who play a friendly against Togo in Paris tomorrow, where he is likely to earn his second cap. When Onyekuru does eventually sign for Arsenal, who recently won the English FA Cup, he will feature alongside Super Eagles team mate Alex Iwobi.
