Luth delivers its first set of Covid-19 twins as mother receiving treatment gives birth to boy and girl

NIGERIA has recorded its first coronavirus set of twins after a 22-year-old patient receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (Luth) after being diagnosed as Covgid-19 positive delivered a boy and a girl.

Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, the chairman of Luth's Medical Advisory Committee, said the delivery brings to four, the number of expectant mothers that had put to bed at the isolation facility. This month has been very busy at the Luth Covid-219 ward as on May 15, a 33-year-old patient gave birth, while a 37-year-old mother gave birth earlier on May 9.

“A team of Luth doctors, anaesthetists and nurses today, delivered the fourth expectant mother diagnosed with Covid-19, a set of twins weighing 3.2kg and 3.25kg respectively through a caesarean section. The mother and babies are doing well.

“Once again, we celebrate our committed frontline staff for this achievement. We also appreciate the support of the federal government, the Lagos State government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control,” Professor Adeyemo said.

On April 27, Luth successfully delivered a 40-year-old Covid-19 patient of a baby girl, who is also said to be doing well. So far, there is no medical evidence to suggest that Covid-19 can be transmitted from mother to child.
