Home-based Eagles to face Republic of Benin's Squirrels tonight in Wafu Nations Cup semi final

NIGERIA'S home-based Super Eagles will face the Squirrels on Benin Republic tonight in the semi final of the ongoing West African Football Union (Wafu) Nation Cup at Ghana's Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Benin were the shock winners of Group B after beating Niger Republic 2-1 on Tuesday night. Before their feat they were third and faced the danger of crashing out but they surprised the pundits, to qualify for the semi finals in style.

Now, coach Oumar Tchomogo is looking up to his wards to beat Nigeria as pay back for the 2-1 aggregate loss they suffered in the hands of the Super Eagles in last month's Chan qualifier. Having beaten the likes of Cape Verde and Ivory Coast so far in the Wafu tournament, the Squirrels are motivated to beat the Super Eagles who themselves showed up in their last group game against Ghana to win 2-0.

Coach Tchomogo said: “Although we respect the Nigerian team, we are going to do our best and get a good result.”

After tonight's match, the winner of the semi final will face either Ghana or Niger in the final on Sunday, while the loser will play in the third-place playoff on Saturday.  Nigeria and Benin have met in 18 previous matches, with the Eagles having 11 wins, compared with just two for the Squirrels and outscored their opponents by 42 goals to 10 in the process.
