Metropolitan Police report 18 injuries as terrorists detonate bomb at London tube station

LONDON'S Metropolitan Police has confirmed that 18 people were injured and taken to hospital following a terrorist attack at Parsons Green Underground Station on the District Line at 8.20am this morning.

In the first major incident in several years, there was an explosion at the station during this morning's rush hour, which created maximum panic. A counter-terror investigation has been launched and Prime Minister Theresa May has called an emergency meeting of the crisis response committee known as the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (Cobra) for later today, which the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan will be attending.

She said her thoughts are with those injured and thanked the emergency services for their swift and brave response. Armed police, paramedics and 50 firefighters are still at the station and part the District line has been shut down between Earl’s Court and Wimbledon.

Pictures from the incident show a white bucket on fire inside a supermarket bag but do not appear to show extensive damage to the inside of the carriage. One commuter took a picture of the device, which appeared to have wires protruding from a white canister

Mayor Khan has appealed for calm, saying the city will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism.  Witnesses have described seeing at least one passenger with facial injuries, while others have spoken of panic as alarmed passengers left the train at Parsons Green station.

Eyewitness Michael Bennett, said: “I was towards the front of the rear carriage and as the train pulled into the platform there was a huge noise. I wasn’t facing it at the time, I just heard a big noise and saw a shot of flames come past and could feel it singe the back of my head.

“There was probably five or six minutes when no-one was really moving and everyone was piling off the tube and nobody was able to get down the stairs. There were quite a few people on the platform in tears and shocked."
