Ademola Lookman submits his nationality switch application to Fifa so he can feature for Nigeria

ENGLAND youth international Ademola Lookman has applied to Fifa for a switch of nationality that will enable him to represent Nigeria at senior level which will enable him to play for the Super Eagles during the World Cup qualifiers.

Lookman, 22, is currently an England youth international, having played for the U21 team after joining Everton from Charlton Athletic. He is currently out on loan to German side RB Leipzig, where his career has blossomed since he began seeing regular action at the club, which is keen to sign him permanently.

Back in 2017, Lookman won the U20 World Cup with England so for him to feature for Nigeria, he will have switch his allegiance through Fifa.  Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has been after Lookman for a while and will hope that now the player has submitted his application, he gets approval before the World Cup qualifiers start.

Nigerian Football Federation spokesman Tunde Adelakun, said:“Lookman has applied for the switch and all the documents are in order. It’s a positive step forward when made his commitment to Nigeria and we are just waiting for a Fifa clearance.

“Once the go-ahead is sorted, it will be up to coach Gernot Rohr to decide if his club performance would earn him a call up.” Over the last two seasons, Lookman has been at the centre of a tug of war between Everton and Leipzig, with the German side desperate to sign him permanently but the Merseyside giants have held out.
