Bauchi's Governor Bala Mohammed hospitalised in London for undisclosed ailment

BAUCHI State's Governor Bala Mohammed has been hospitalised in London for an undisclosed ailment in what has become the latest incidence of a Nigerian public official seeking medical treatment in the UK.

Traditionally, the UK has always been a favourite destination for Nigerian politicians and public officers holders seeking medical attention.  Since assuming office in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari has sought medical attention in the UK every year, including three spells when he was so incapacitated that he had to hand over to vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Many Nigerian politicians travel abroad annually for medical check-ups and Governor Mohammed is the latest public official to join the list. This comes as the governor is facing a Supreme Court challenge to his election from his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival Mohammed Abubakar who is contesting his victory in the February gubernatorial elections.

Governor Mohammed said: “I am in hospital in London but we strongly believe that Allah is sufficient for us and He is able and capable to give us victory Insha Allah! Cheers to you all.”

His message was conveyed by his senior special assistant on media Mukhtar Gidado, who said the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the lofty ideals of the new Bauchi Movement. Governor Mohammed pledged to lead with justice, equity and humility and promised to recognise and reward those who contributed positively to his movement and show loyalty to him and the Bauchi project.
