Ebere Eze moves closer to switching allegiance after saying he will consider Pinnick's offer

QUEENS Park Rangers (QPR) midfielder Ebere Eze has moved a step closer to playing for the Super Eagles after he revealed that he will give thought to switching his allegiance from England following his recent meeting with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president.

Linked with a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur as a replacement for want-away Danish skipper Christian Erickson, Ebere has been in scintillating form for English Championship side QPR this season. Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has been after him for a while now but so too have England, who have capped him at the U20 level, meaning that even if Eze wants to play for Nigeria now, he will have to go through a Fifa switch.

Last month, NFF president Amaju Pinnick flew into London to hold talks with the midfielder in a bid to convince him to opt for Nigeria. Such switches can take up to a year to complete but Mr Pinnick is keen to start the process immediately, as he sees Ebere as a playmaker, considered the last missing piece in the jigsaw of the Super Eagles.

Yesterday, Ebere thanked Mr Pinnick for his desire to have him commit his international future to Nigeria ahead of England. Three years ago, Ebere trained with the Super Eagles during their training camp in London but he did not feature for the team.

Ebere said: "I trained with the senior national team of Nigeria years ago and that was it until I met the president of the NFF few weeks ago. He is a nice man and I am grateful for his support and commitment for me to switch to Nigeria.

"I will make a decision at the right time. My mother spoke with one of the assistants of the coach but the coach and I have not had any direct conversation since the training camp in London."
