Governor Umahi appoints 513 fresh aides in Ebonyi State in addition to the existing 4,000

GOVERNOR David Umahi of Ebonyi State has approved the appointment of 513 additional aides to serve as his technical assistants in an unprecedented move that is likely to make his administration the most bloated in Nigeria.

In March this year, Governor Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party was returned to offer for a second four-year term and was sworn-in in May. Hailed for many of his infrastructural development programmes, Governor Umahi is credited with giving the Ebonyi State capital Abakaliki a facelift, construction dual carriageways, fountains and open spaces.

Now still putting his administration together for the second term which ends in 2023, Governor Umahi has decided to go for a large government. Chief Clement Nweke, the governor's principal secretary, said the appointees were drawn from the 171 political wards in the state.

He added: “Appointees from Abakaliki, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ebonyi, and Ezza North local government areas are to report on November 27, 2019. Appointees from Ezza South, Ikwo, Izzi and Ohaozara are to report on November 28 while those from  Ishielu, Ivo, Ohaukwu and Onicha local government areas are to report on November 29, 2019.”

All appointees are to report to the office of the principal secretary with their credentials for documentation. During a meeting with top government officials in September, Governor Umahi hinted that he would appoint 800 aides to add to the 4,000 already with the government.
