Leicester City plan to put Iheanacho up for sale during the January transfer window

LEICESTER City have decided to put Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho up for sale during the forthcoming January transfer window as part of a planned clearout of non-performing players in a bid to reduce its wage bill.

So far this season, Iheanacho has not seen one minute of league action and Leicester are planning a clear out in the winter window, so will allow the striker, who they bought for £25m, to go. Since leaving Manchester City, Iheanacho, 23, has struggled at the King Power Stadium as his form has dipped.

Latest reports from Leicester indicate that the club will put him on sale in a few weeks' time, alongside other redundant players. With Iheanacho on a hefty £60,000 a week salary, the Foxes' management are desperate to offload him as soon as the next transfer window opens either through a direct sale or under a loan deal.

If a loan offer comes along in January, however, Iheanacho will need to accept a pay cut as any new taker may not want to match his huge cost. Last season, Iheanacho was making cameo appearances as a late substitute but at the moment, he is even finding it hard to make the bench and has only made Leicester's match day squad four times in 12 league games during the current campaign.

Iheanacho's lack of playing time at Leicester City has since cost him his Nigerian shirt as he was first frozen out of the Super Eagles Nations Cup squad by manager Gernot Rohr. However, despite his travails, many are of the opinion that the striker is the architect of his misfortunes, pointing out that he is not doing enough for his own career, accusing him of being lazy.

Others are of the opinion that Iheanacho prefers financial rewards at the expense of his career. Many think he should have gone on loan earlier and should not have even started this season with the Leicester, since it was evident he was no more needed at the King Power Stadium.

This season, the only times Iheanacho has taken to the field were in the two Carabao Cup games against Luton Town and Burton Albion in which he scored. In contrast, compatriot Wilfred Ndidi is a regular starter for the Foxes, being one of the mainstays of their team and an ever-present member of the team.
