Sowore expected to be released any moment from now as he has fulfilled his bail conditions

SAHARA Reporters publisher and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore is expected to be released from custody any moment from now after it emerged that he has perfected the bail conditions set by an Abuja high court.

In August, men of the Department of State Security (DSS), picked up Mr Sowore in Lagos as he was planning to organise a series of nationwide demonstrations under the banner #RevolutionNow. In September, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had imposed a N100m bail bond on Mr Sowore while his co-defendant Olawale Bakare got N50m, following charges of treasonable felony levelled against them.

Mr Sowore and Mr Bakare were arraigned on a seven-count charge of treasonable felony, cyberstalking and money laundering. Last month, his lawyers successfully appealed the Draconian terms imposed when he was first detained in August and Justice Ojukwu reduced Mr Sowore’s bail bond from N100m to N50m, while Mr Bakare’s bail was reduced from N50m to N20m.

Earlier today, Mr Sowore's lawyer Femi Falana, informed the federal high court Abuja, that Mr Sowore will be freed as he has perfected the conditions for his bail. While objecting to the submissions of the prosecution counsel, Hassan Liman, Mr Falana said he had been denied access to his client, who had been in custody since August and as such, was not prepared for the trial.

He added that he will get instructions from his client to enable him prepare for the defence if he is released from custody. Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel told the court that the prosecution will lead evidence to show how the defendants wanted to overthrow the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
