APC asks police to investigate attack on the Benin home of its chairman Oshiomhole

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) leaders have asked the inspector-general of police Mohammed Adamu to investigate the recent armed attack on the home of its national chairman Adams Oshiomhole in Benin.

Last week, armed gunmen apparently broke into Mrs Oshiomhole's home in the Edo State capital and many commentators have attributed it to the ongoing crisis within the party. Mr Oshiomhole and his successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki are involved in a bitter tussle for the control of the Edo State chapter of the APC that has split it into two camps.

Reacting to the attack on Mr Oshiomhole's home, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC's national publicity secretary, condemned the move, describing those behind the incident as desperate persons who have political ambition. He commended Mr Oshiomhole for calling for calm after the apparent attempt on his life by political thugs.

Mr Issa-Onilu said: “In Edo State, just as in any other state, everyone must be free to go about their normal and legitimate activities without harassment, intimidation, threat to life and property. It is clear that the sponsors of the attack are bent on causing crisis in the state in pursuit of their desperate and unpopular political interests.

"Human life is greater that anyone’s political ambition. We want Mr Adamu and other relevant security outfits to investigate the ugly incident and prosecute the sponsors and attackers."
