Diezani reported to have moved into London flat as UK authorities seize more of her property

FORMER petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has had to move out of her luxurious west London apartment and into a smaller flat as the noose around her tightens and governments keep confiscating her property.

Under investigation both in Nigeria and the UK, Ms Alison-Madueke, who was the oil minister between 2011 and 2015, has been accused of participating in largescale corruption. It is alleged that she used her position to allocate lucrative oil wells to close associates worth billions of dollars.

Since leaving office two years ago, Ms Alison-Madueke has taken refuge in the UK, where she was arrested and granted bail pending the filing of formal charges against her. Over recent months, the Nigerian government has stepped up the seizure of her assets as it is believed she amassed a lot of property in cities like Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos.

Ms Alison-Madueke has been asked to forfeit UK properties worth over £11m and has recently been forced to forfeit about N7.6bn hidden in a Nigerian bank to the government. Over the last week, it is believed that she has moved into a small London flat after losing several properties to the UK and Nigeria governments. T

It is believed that the flat she has just rented is located in the same building as her apartment recently seized along with other properties by the UK government. Since her troubles began, Ms Alison-Madueke has been under investigation by the UK's National Crime Agency, which is believed to have seized £10m worth of London property allegedly bought for her.

According to one report, two properties in Regents Park in London, along with one in Buckinghamshire, have now been seized based on the request of Nigerian authorities. It is now believed that Ms Alison-Madueke has had to cut down her expensive lifestyle, hence the decision to move into a rented apartment.
