Chelsea centreback Fikayo Tomori says he will play for Eagles if invited by NFF

CHELSEA centreback Fikayo Tomori has said he would be willing to play for the Super Eagles if he is invited to do so by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) despite receiving interest from England and Canada.

Tomori, 21, is eligible play for Nigeria, where his parents are from, Canada, where he was born and England where he currently lives. Having broken into the Chelsea squad, Tomori is being highly sought for but he is yet to decide where his international future lies, adding that his choice might be determined by which of the countries give him a call-up.

“I’m a citizen of all three countries, so we’ll see. I was born in Canada and lived there about seven or eight months old, my family is Nigerian and obviously I live in England.

“It’s nice to have that. I can’t play Under-21 football anymore so the last international break I didn’t get called up to anyone but next one maybe we’ll see,” Tomori added.

His Chelsea teammate Tammy Abraham, is also torn between choosing Nigeria's Super Eagles and England's Three Lions. Tomori has been in fine form for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in the 2019/20 Premier League season with one goal in three league games for the Blues.

After yesterday's match, Frank Lampard singled out Tomori for special praise after Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. He was up against former Blues man Mohamed Salah and did an excellent job keeping the Egyptian quiet for most parts of the game.

Lampard said: “I have to single out Tomori as well, to go up against Salah. Everything he did today was class.”
