Diasporan resume or resign protesters criticise Buhari saying he responsible for them remaining abroad

DIASPORAN Resume or Resign protesters have hit back at President Muhammadu Buhari for criticising them for remaining abroad saying that he is to blame for them living in the UK as his government has not provided a conducive environment.

Last week, President Buhari mocked protesters who held a vigil in London demanding that he return to Nigeria teasing them that now that he has done so they should follow suit and come home too. They had held a Resume or Resign protest outside Abuja House in London where President Buhari stayed for 105 days recovering from an undisclosed illness.

A day after their protest, President Buhari returned to Nigeria and has since assumed his duties in Abuja. President Buhari taunted the protesters, asking them to take a leaf out of his book as he has now that he has returned to Nigeria, those behind the protest should do likewise.

One of the conveners of the Deji Adeyanju, hit back, however, saying the inability of the Buhari administration to provide a conducive environment and vibrant economy is what is driving youths out of Nigeria. He called on the president to address the plethora of socio-economic problems the country is facing if he wants diasporans to return home.

Mr Adeyanju added:“The people who protested that the president should come back live outside the country because he has failed the nation. He has failed to provide jobs and deliver on his campaign promises and he has killed the health sector since he came in.

“People have resorted to travelling abroad to seek medical help and instead of the president to be sober and apologise to Nigerians after wasting taxpayers’ money in London for 103 days, he chose the arrogant part by insulting Nigerians and betraying the oath that he took to develop the health sector and end medical tourism. Meanwhile, our members in the diaspora add directly to the economy of Nigeria because many of them have businesses here and they send money home."

He said that what the president did for the 104 days that he was away was to add value to the British economy. According to Mr Adeyanju, President Buhari did not add value to Nigeria in all the time he spent in the UK.

Resume or Resign co-convener Charles Oputa, added:  "They said it wasn’t the protest that brought him back but now he is making a joke of it. I don’t even know what to say.

"I have always complained about the tactics of this government and their body language. They say one thing and do another.”
