Nnamdi Kanu describes Nuremburg attack as courageous saying same fate awaits other Igbo politicians

INDIGENOUS People of Biafra (Ipob) leader Nnamdi Kanu has told Igbo politicians that the recent attack on former deputy senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu should serve as a warning to them of what awaits them if they continue to oppose secession.

On Saturday, Senator Ekweremadu, the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District, was due to be the guest speaker at the New Yam Festival of the Igbo community in Nuremburg in Germany.  However, he was physically assaulted by Ipob members, with his top torn to shreds, as the separatist group vented their anger on him, forcing him to leave the event.

Igbo leaders both at home and in the diaspora have condemned the attack, saying it is tantamount to hooliganism and an affront to Igbo culture. Ipob is campaigning for an independent state of Biafra, saying it wants to secede from Nigeria and sees Igbo politicians as impediments to this dream.

Yesterday, Mr Kanu described the Nuremberg attack by his supporters as a courageous act and polite warning. He said a similar fate awaits other Igbo leaders, including the governors of the five states in the southeast geo-political zone.

Mr Kanu said: “The courageous act by Ipob at Nürnberg, Germany, is a polite warning to those engaged in selling our collective interest to Fulani caliphate. Ohanaeze Ndigbo president Nnia Nwodo and Igbo governors are warned.”

Leading Igbo politicians including the South East Professionals Forum of All Progressives Congress, the senate chief whip Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and senate minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, all described the attack on Senator Ekweremadu as not only shameful but unedifying of the Igbo race. It is believed that the German authorities will be deporting all those involved in the attack.
