IRATE youths in the Oghoghobi community of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State have forced their traditional ruler His Royal Highness Kingsley Omorose to flee after they burnt down his palace over his alleged involvement in an assassination.
Oba Omorose fled after angry villagers invaded his palace and set it ablaze over the death of a former youth leader in the area. During the attack, valuable items belonging to the traditional ruler and some of his subjects were destroyed.
Known locally as Let Them Say, the assassinated youth leader Lambert Igbinomwahia, was said to have been killed at his house by some gunmen. Apparently, the attackers opened fire on him as he attempted to open the gate for them to come in.
After the shooting, local villagers stormed the traditional ruler’s palace, accusing him of sponsoring the killing. However, Oba Oromose denied the allegation, saying he could not plan evil against his subjects.
He, however, noted that there was an issue between the deceased and the community. Haliru Gwandu, the Edo State police commissioner confirmed the incident, adding that personnel of the command were deployed in the area as soon as they received a signal about the incident.
