Edo Ijaws threaten to stone Governor Obaseki unless he appoints one of them into his cabinet

IJAW youths resident in Edo State have threatened to stone Governor Godwin Obaseki whenever he goes on a campaign trail if he does not appoint one of their members into his cabinet soon.

It is expected that Governor Obaseki might have a mini cabinet reshuffle and the Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (Ipdi) has said it will not tolerate being left out. Although not indigenous to Edo State, a substantial number of Ijaws live there having made it home when the state and Delta State, where they hail from were one, making up the old Bendel State.

Ipdi president Austin Ozobo, said that they would stone and chase the governor away from any Ijaw community in the state he visits for his re-election campaign if he does not appoint an Ijaw man as a commissioner in his cabinet. There is currently no Ijaw man or woman in the Edo State cabinet

Mr Ozobo said: “We have unanimously agreed to chase out and stone Godwin Obaseki in Ijaw communities in the state when he will visit us for his second term campaigns. We will disgrace him and give him the worst embarrassment in his life, except he appoints a reasonable and reliable Ijaw man as a commissioner in the state.”
