Buhari says he has not submitted his ministerial list yet because he wants to get to know his nominees first

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has pleaded with the leadership of the National Assembly to give him more time to compile the list of ministerial nominees as he wants to know the people who is nominating into his cabinet.

Since assuming office on May 29, President Buhari has not submitted the names of his ministerial nominees to the senate for vetting as the constitution requires. With the National Assembly due to go on recess at the end of the month, President Buhari is unlikely to hand in his list and have his nominees vetted and approved by the end of the summer break.

While hosting the principal officers of the National Assembly yesterday, President Buhari said that he was under pressure to nominate members of his cabinet. Senator Ita Enang, the senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly matters, added that President Buhari should be given some time for him to come up with the ministerial nominees.

He added that President Buhari pointed out that most of the ministers he appointed in his first tenure were not known to him and this time around, he wanted to appoint those he knows and have confidence in their capacity to deliver. President Buhari revealed during the closed door dinner that he was under tremendous pressure to release the ministerial list.

Senate president Senator Ahmad Lawan said the senate was yet to receive ministerial list from President Buhari. He added that the ministerial list was not submitted at the dinner contrary to speculations that the president would unveil the list of nominees yesterday.
