Ighalo says Eagles are fully focused on beating Cameroon in Saturday's Nations Cup clash

SUPER Eagles targetman Odion Ighalo has revealed that the team are fully focused on Saturday's Round of 16 match against Cameroon with the hope of winning despite the recent performances in the ongoing African Nations Cup.

Following an uninspiring performance in first round, the Eagles ended up second in their Group B behind Madagascar to whom they lost 0-2. They now face Cameroon in the Alexandria Stadium amid angst from the fans, who are desperate to see a good team performance and a convincing win that will take the Eagles through to the quarter finals.

Ighalo, who only has one goal to his name so far and has been far from convincing, said that the team has no margin for error on Saturday.  Despite rumours of unrest in camp behind the scenes, Ighalo insisted that the Super Eagles are fully focused on the task ahead.

"It is for us to work hard because the game the other day took everyone by surprise as we were a bit relaxed because we’d gone through. This is when the work starts because when you lose now you are going out.

"We have been working yesterday and today, tomorrow the work continues. We know it is a different ball game now so you are going to see everybody with red eyes on that day of the game," Ighalo added.

Meanwhile, Eagles skipper Mikel Obi could miss the remainder of the tournament after straining his knee during the loss to Madagascar. After several checks by the medical staff, it has been confirmed that he will be out of the Cameroon game and there are some fears that the 32-year-old could miss the rest of the championship.

Mikel, who has just signed a two year contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor is playing in his last African Cup of Nations as he is poised to retire after Egypt 2019. He first featured in the tournament in 2006, when he scored on his debut against Zimbabwe.
