Oshiomhole among APC leaders attacked by thugs during party meeting in Benin City

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman Adams Oshiomhole's younger brother Seidu was one of several activists recently attacked by unidentified hoodlums at a meeting of the Edo State chapter of the party in Benin.

Mr Oshiomhole Jnr was apparently attacked along with 14 other lawmakers-elect in the state as they were holding a meeting at an undisclosed location in the capital Benin City. Apparently, the meeting was necessitated by a meeting of nine members of the new Edo State House of Assembly who met to elect Frank Okiye as speaker.

In a  bizarre incident, only nine of the 24 elected members of the assembly met to elect a speaker in what was seen as a recipe for crisis in the state. It is believed that the development will polarise the APC in Edo State into two bitter camps, which some say reflect the polarisation between those loyal to Governor Godwin Obaseki and Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

Over recent months, the relationship between Mr Oshiomhole and Governor Obaseki appears to have deteriorated. APC chairman Oshiomhole is the immediate past governor of the state and handpicked his successor and they had a very cordial relationship until after the last general election.
