Oyedepo said he became a multi-millionaire because he once donated his car to God

LIVING Faith Church founder Bishop David Oyedepo has revealed that he is a millionaire today because he donated his car to God many years ago and he was repaid multiple times with his unprecedented wealth.

Bishop Oyedepo, 64, is the head of Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel and is believed to be the wealthiest of Nigeria's new breed of pastorprueners. These wealthy clergymen collect 10% of their congregations earnings in the form of tithes and with their large following have become millionaires.

Most of these pastorprueners own strings of businesses, have fleets of posh cars, own private universities and travel around in private jets, with a retinue of body guards. Bishop Oyedepo is estimated by Forbes to be worth $150m as he exerts control over churches in 45 African nations, as well as several in Dubai, the UK and the US.

Other similar wealthy Nigerian pastorprueners include Chris Oyakhilome of Believers’ Love World, Temitope Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations and Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Of late, however, these pastorprueners have come under attack for exploiting their followers as they collect money from poor parishioners who cannot even afford to send their children to their universities.

Unrepentant about his wealth, Bishop Oyedepo said that God swore to make him rich because he sowed a car for the propagation of the gospel many years ago. Addressing his members at Cannaland, the church headquarters  in Ota, Ogun State Bishop Oyedepo said his church now buys buses like loaves of bread because of the car he gave to God many years ago.

Bishop Oyedepo said: “I gave my car to God not to be rich but to spread the gospel and God swore to make me rich. Now in one day we bought 87 buses at once, another day we bought 100 buses at once and we now buy buses like loaves of bread.

"Many of you will soon be building houses like loaves of bread. There are too many common people in the world, you need to come out of them and be distinguished by his leading.”

He also charged his members not to depend on their certificates or profession but on God who can provide all their needs. Bishop Oyedepo has always maintained that faithfulness in the payment of tithes would bring prosperity.
