Atiku to call IT experts from Microsoft, IBM and Oracle to prove results were altered on Inec's server

FORMER vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is to call IT experts from Microsoft and IBM as witnesses when his case gets heard at the election tribunal as part of his submission to prove that he won Nigeria's last presidential elections but the results were doctored.

On February 23, Nigerians went to the polls and after the votes were counted, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec), declared incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All progressives Congress (APC), the winner. According to Inec, President Buhari scored 15,191,847 votes to 11,262,978 for Alhaji Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, the PDP is disputing these figures and Alhaji Abubakar has filed an appeal with the elections tribunal, claiming he scored 18,356,732 votes to President Buhari's 16,741,430 votes. According to Alhaji Abubakar, the original and authentic results were altered after they were entered into Inec's server and he now plans to call on IT experts from Microsoft, IBM and Oracle as witnesses to prove his case.

Claiming that he defeated President Buhari with 1.6m votes, Alhaji Abubakar has even identified the server where he said the results were kept. It is now expected that the PDP will be expected to tender as exhibits Inec’s training manual on elections, a printout of the votes of candidates from smart card readers and a printout of the forensic audit report on the commission's server as evidence.

Already, Inec's director of information and communications technology, Chidi Nwafor, in his witness statement on oath denied the server results which the PDP and Alhaji Abubakar are laying claims to. He added that all the results were collated manually and were never transmitted electronically.

Alhaji Abubakar and his party said one of the spokespersons for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo even attested to the fact that the election data was in Inec’s servers when he wrote a petition to the inspector-general of police calling on him to arrest the PDP presidential candidate. Mr Keyamo had accused Alhaji Abubakar of breaching the Data Protection Act by hacking into the Inec server.
