Joint Nigerian and Chadian military operation clears four Borno villages of Boko Haram killing 27 terrorists

NIGERIAN Army troops enjoyed another major victory over Boko Haram terrorists this weekend when they killed 27 insurgents in an attack carried out in conjunction with Chadian forces in four Borno State villages.

Of late, Boko Haram has stepped up its attacks in Borno State, regaining ground and enjoying a resurgence of some sort. However, over the last week, the Nigerian military has mounted a fightback and over the weekend, soldiers of the Seventh mechanised Brigade in Maiduguri killed 27 Boko Haram members and recovered arms and ammunition during the encounter.

Code named Operation Lafiya Dole, the mission to finish off Boko Haram has proven to be more difficult than expected as it appears that the insurgents are getting resupplies and foreign training. On Saturday, however, during an operation carried out in conjunction with the Chadian Defence Force, Boko Haram forces were routed in Wulgo, Tumbuma, Chikun Gudu, and Bukar Maryam villages.

Nigerian Army spokesman Colonel Sagir Musa, revealed that there were no casualties on the part of the Nigerian and Chadian forces during the operation. He also stated that the mission was carried out by troops of Section One, Lafia Dole in conjunction with their Chadian colleagues.

According to Col Musa, mopping up operations are still being carried out. He added that a coordinated military operation is ongoing especially in the fringes of Gombaru-Ngala and some surrounding areas to deal with the fleeing bandits running away from the multinational Joint Task Force onslaught on their hideouts.
