Asaba sex worker arrested after stabbing client to death as row over payment turns sour

MEN of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a commercial sex worker in Asaba for stabbing a client to death during an argument believed to be over the payment of the agreed fee between the two.

 

According to the police, the sex worker killed the customer at the Destar Hotel in Asaba, the Delta State capital last month. , Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Andrew Aniamaka, a spokesman for the command, said that they responded to a distress call from the hotel after the incident.

 

DSP Aniamaka added: “The suspect is currently in police custody. A day after the incident, the C Division in Asaba carried out preliminary investigation on the case and transferred it to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

 

“As I speak to you, homicide detectives have commenced full investigation into the case with a view to unravelling what actually transpired between the suspect and the victim to

establish culpability.”

 

One of the few sex workers in the hotel described the incident as horrible and unfortunate, saying it had brought business to a standstill.  A bar attendant at the hotel said the incident had thrown the stakeholders into a mourning mood.

 

“The sad incident started like a normal argument inside the hotel room and before we realised it, a man was down with a fatal stab. The incident happened at about 10.45 pm, so nobody could actually say what led to the fracas," he added.

 

It is believed that he victim was a married man with four children. For now, it is not yet clear if the sex worker will be charged with murder or manslaughter.
