ADP delighted with CUPP decision to endorse Gbadamosi as its consensus candidate in Lagos governorship race

LAGOS State's Action Democratic Party (ADP) gubernatorial candidate Babatunde Gbadamosi has hailed the recent decision by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) to endorse him as confirmation that he is the only one who can turn the state around.

On Saturday, Lagosians go to polls to elect a new governor and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly in what is looking like a three horse race between Mr Gbadamosi of the ADP, Babajide Samwoolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Earlier this week, the CUPP, a coalition of 35 political parties decided to endorse Mr Gbadamosi as its preferred candidate.

Delighted with this endorsement, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, the publicity secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the ADP, said Mr Gbadamosi has demonstrated the passion and competence he would deploy in bringing Lagos out of its present situation. He said that they are glad that CUPP, which at the national level includes the PDP, has now agreed to work with their party to ensure that Lagos is delivered to the people of the state.

Prince Adeoye added: “What is important at this point is for all the like minded political parties to identify a very competent candidate who is likely not to be the other half of the APC coin and Gbadamosi has been identified for his readiness to govern Lagosians. Some 35 political parties under the CUPP, which have representatives from Afenifere, Ohanaeze, Pandef, and the Middle Belt Congress came together in addition to the peoples mass movement #OtoGeLagos and after series of stakeholder engagements and carefully X-rayed both Agbaje and Gbadamosi.

“Gbadamosi was found to be more determined and serious to become governor which landed him their unanimous endorsement and adoption as the consensus governorship candidate. The ADP has been inundated with false claims by those in Agbaje’s wrecking ship that Gbadamosi was not adopted by CUPP but we task them to do some soul searching and tell the public if they are in the contest to win or for business as usual.

“Agbaje's camp cannot arrogate themselves to become the spokespersons for the CUPP, which has agreed to follow a candidate who is more determined to lead Lagosians as announced by Gboyega Adeniji, the secretary general of CUPP at a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos. ADP is the party to beat in this election, we, therefore, call on Lagosians to troop out in large numbers to cast their votes for Babatunde Gbadamosi of the ADP, as he is the best man for the job.”
