Nnamdi Kanu dares the government to touch him saying that he plans returning to Nigeria

INDIGENOUS People of Biafra (Ipob) leader Nnamdi Kanu has pledged to return to Nigeria shortly pointing out that he will dare the government to do its worst as his campaign for a fair deal for Ndigbo will continue after the elections.

Since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, Ipob and other secessionist groups have stepped up their campaign to recreate Biafra, the breakaway republic that existed briefly between July 1967 and January 1970 during the Nigerian Civil War. They claim that the current administration has marginalised Ndigbo and want to create their own sovereign nation of Igbos.

Up until earlier this month, Ipob had urged it members to boycott Nigeria's forthcoming elections, saying it would only allow them to go ahead if there was a referendum on the vexed issue of allowing Biafra to secede from Nigeria. However, the organisation has been under pressure to recount this stance as Igbo leaders have pointed out that a boycott will not serve any useful purpose.

Last week, Ipob leader Nnamdi Kanu bowed to pressure and announced that he was calling off the election boycott after meeting and discussing with numerous stakeholders. According to Mr Kanu, Ipob had got assurances that its conditions had been met, so he urged all the association's members to now participate in the polls.

Now, Mr Kanu has pledged to return to Nigeria soon, although it is not yet clear if he intends to do so before or after the elections. A big critic of President Buhari, it is thought that Mr Kanu will be hoping that former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar wins the presidential elections and may enter into an accommodation with him.

In a tirade against President Buhari, who he insists is an imposter, Mr Kanu lamented the killing of Igbos spearheaded by some southeast governors. He called out Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state, blaming him for orchestrating the genocide and added that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State is helping hunt down innocent Ipob members.

Mr Kanu said: “There’s no government in the world that doesn’t know about Ipob and fortunately I met most of them, we just don’t publish all on social media. I’m coming to Nigeria, in power and glory and I’m coming fully prepared, so whatever the Nigerian government wants, we will do it there.

“We called for boycott of the zoo and Nigeria was vibrating but then we called it off and they ran astray. That’s how powerful Ipob is and no amount of intimidation, arrest, killings will stop us from marching."

According to Mr Kanu, Ipob members are being taken into Department of State Security custody in Abuja, masterminded by Governor Obiano and others. He added that Igbo governors are hunting down and killing Ipob members and everyone is keeping quite but the day they decide to retaliate, everyone will start talking rubbish.
