Atiku warns Buhari that history will condemn him if Saturday's elections are not free and fair

FORMER vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that history would condemn him if Saturday’s presidential election was not free and fair amid claims that the government intends to rig the polls.

On Saturday, Nigerians go to the polls to elect a new president with Alhaji Atiku standing as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against incumbent President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). With tension heightening as the elections draw near, Alhaji Abubakar has already accused the APC of training operatives in China, who would be provided with devices on the day to slow down voters' card readers.

Over the last week, the APC and PDP have both accused each other of planning to rig the polls, with allegations and counter-allegations flying in both directions. Both parties allege that the other intends to snatch ballot boxes, intimidate opposition voters and falsify collated results.

Upping the ante, Alhaji Abubakar stated that President Buhari must ensure the presidential poll was free, fair and credible. He added that if he does so and wins, the people will commend him for it but otherwise, history will condemn him but before history does that, the people will condemn him.
