Buhari holds first meeting with incoming inspector-general of police Mohammed Adamu

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Assistant Inspector of Police AIG) Mohammed Adamu as the new inspector-general of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to replace Ibrahim Idris who is retiring after 35 years of service.

 

In line with convention, the Nasarawa-born AIG Adama will serve in an acting capacity until his appointment is confirmed by the National Assembly. Following his elevation, all the eight deputy inspector-general's of police who are his senior's in the service, are being retired along with Mr Idris.

 

Early this morning, Mr Adamu visited President Buhari at the Aso Rock villa and upon arriving went straight to the office of chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari. Mr Idris was seen performing his last public official duty of wreath laying during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abuja this morning and his departure is expected to be announced later today.

 

His  mandatory 35 years in service expired on January 4  and he clocked the age of 60 today January 15. It is believed that President Buhari and the incoming Mr Adamu would discuss policing during the forthcoming elections among other things.

 

Mr Mohammed from Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, is currently a directing staff member at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State. He was born on November 9, 1961 and enlisted in the NPF in 1986.

 

He was at one time a director of peacekeeping operations and is a former police commissioner in Enugu State. Mr Mohammed who until most recently was the AIG in charge of Zone Five, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography.
