Buhari writes to Guinean President Alpha Conde thanking him for organising nationwide prayers

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has written a letter to President Alpha Conde of Guinea to thank him for conducting nationwide prayers for him last week after his colleague called on his citizens to seek diving help for the Nigerian leader.

Out of Nigeria since May 7, President Buhari has been in the UK for nearly three months now, where he has been recovering from an undisclosed illness. In an act of concern for his West African colleague, President Conde asked Guineans to hold nationwide prayers for President Buhari.

Touched by the move, President Buhari wrote to the Guinean leader yesterday thanking him for his gesture. Femi Adesina, President Buhari's spokesman, revealed that the president also called President Conde, informing him about his readiness to resume work once he is cleared by his doctors.

Buhari’s letter read: “I thank you for your kind and thoughtful action in organising nationwide prayers for my good health.  It is a gesture that I will forever cherish and treasure.

“Your Excellency will be pleased to hear that I am making good progress and as soon as doctors advise, I shall return to my duties and continue serving the Nigerian people who elected me and are daily praying for my recovery.”

Earlier this week, several state governors visited President Buhari in London and said they are hopeful that he will return within the next fortnight. Among the governors who visited President Buhari included Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and Chief John Oyegun, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
