Plateau youth sentenced to six months imprisonment by Jos high court for stealing chickens

PLATEAU State youth Fahad Mohammed has been sentenced to six month imprisonment by a Jos high court after he was convicted of stealing chickens after he confessed to committing the crime last month.

 

Jos Upper Area Court Area Three, sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Mr Mohammed, 20, to prison after he pleaded guilty before Justice Yahaya Mohammed to the act of theft. However, Justice Mohammed, gave the convict an option of paying a N5,000 ($17) fine following his decision to plead guilty.

 

Police prosecutor, Inspector Labaran Ahmed, told the court that the case was reported on November 8, at the Nassarawa Gwom, Divisional Police Station, by the complainant, one Auwal Umar, who is a resident of Filli Ball Jos. He said that the complainant disclosed that the accused, had made away with his 27 chicken valued at N24,500 ($67) to an unknown destination.

 

Inspector Ahmed revealed that during police investigation, the accused was arrested and he confessed to have committed the crime. According to the police prosecutor, the act contravened section 287 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
