Atiku says terrible state of Akanu Ibiam Airport makes him terrified of visiting Enugu

FORMER vice president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he is always scared of travelling to Enugu because of the terrible state of the airport runway which is a death trap.

Speaking during a meeting with Igbo leaders in Enugu, Alhaji Abubakar assured then that he is determined to fix the ailing Nigerian economy and is particularly keen on repairing the poor infrastructure in the southeast. He added that he was worried about developments in the country as well as the future of the nation and the legacies that would be left for generations unborn.

Alhaji Abubakar said: “My commitment is to fix this country as I think of the future this country will have if I do not struggle to fix it. Our economy must be fixed and you can trust me and Mr Peter Obi to do it.

“I am always scared coming to Enugu because of the state of the runway of the airport. What does it take to fix the runway? A local government council can fix it if they are made viable.”

Pointing out that he was equally disturbed about the state of infrastructure across the southeast, especially the condition of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Alhaji Abubakar also promised to restructure the nation. He added that under his plans, there will be a gradual move towards allowing oil-producing states to keep the revenue they generate.

“I am a product of a restructured Nigeria, so it is a settled issue. In contrast, Article 7 (2) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) constitution says that the party believes in restructuring and state police but what have they done about this?" Alhaji Abubakar added.
