Chelsea manager Maurizo Sarri tells Victor Moses he is free to leave during January transfer window

CHELSEA manager Maurizo Sarri has told Victor Moses that he can leave the club during the January transfer window as the player is not central to his plans over the forthcoming season.

Moses, 27, has not featured much for Chelsea this season as following the arrival of Mr Sarri, the team has switched from the 3-5-2 formation in which he played as a wingback to a 4-3-3  structure. Now a peripheral figure in the team, Moses, who retired from international football to concentrate on his club career appears to have run into a cul-de-sac and is looking for a way to revive his career.

Over the last week, Mr Sarri had firm talks with Moses and told him that he is not part of his future plans for the team and he is free to leave if an offer which matches his valuation is received by Chelsea. This season, Moses has only played 26 minutes of league football, in sharp contrast to the way he was a regular starter during the last campaign under Antonio Conte.

Although Mr Sarri tried getting Moses to revert back to his old role as a winger, the player has still found it hard to break into the Chelsea team. Moses made his Premier League debut against Sunderland on February 6, 2010 and since then went on to become one of the best players in the league.

During an international career that spanned six years, Moses, who joined the national team in 2012, scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for the Super Eagles. He was also instrumental in the Super Eagles winning the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and qualifying for two World Cups in 2014 and 2018.

However, from being a regular for club and country last season, Moses is now out in the wilderness and needs a boost to revive his career. Among other things, Moses was shortlisted for the BBC African player of the Year last season alongside Mohamed Sallah, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
