Ganduje to appear before Kano State House of Assembly tomorrow to answer bribery charges

KANO State's Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been invited by the Kano State House of Assembly to appear before its ad-hoc committee set up to investigate a videos showing him allegedly taking bribe from a government contractor.

Last month, the Kano State House of Assembly set up a seven-man ad hoc committee to investigate the authenticity of a video clip in which Governor Ganduje was seen receiving the bribe. Over the last month, the video, originally published by online media platform Daily Nigerian, shows the governor receiving wads of dollars from a man said to be a contractor and stuffing them into his clothing.

Governor Ganduje is expected to appear before the committee tomorrow where he will answer queries about whether the money was taken to secure a government contract. Translated into English with dates and timelines, the footage gives the names of contractors, projects and the voice of the purported bribe giver.

Unlike the previous videos released by Daily Nigerian, the latest one was suspected to have been released by other parties who could have had access to them after copies were released to security agencies and the Kano State House of Assembly. Governor Ganduje has dismissed the video as fake and as a forgery, swearing on the koran that he never received bribes from anyone.
