Rohr eyes Huddersfield Danish-born central midfielder Philip Billing as Nations Cup looms

SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has stepped up his pursuit of Danish-born Huddersfield central midfielder Phillip Billing with a view to getting him to switch is loyalty to Nigeria from Denmark.

Billing, 22, who middle name in Anyawu, has already represented Denmark at U19 and 21 level but he is yet to be capped at senior level. This makes him eligible to play for Nigeria if he switches his allegiance through Fifa, prompting Mr Rohr to step up his interest in the player as the African Nations Cup approaches.

Already, Mr Rohr has asked scout Tunde Adelakun to hold talks with the left footed central midfielder who has been a revelation for Huddersfield this season in the English Premier League. Everton ace Ademola Lookman is already on course to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria over the coming days but Mr Rohr wants to get Billing too so his squad has added depth.

Mr Rohr is hoping to convince Billing to join the squad after the last round of qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations against Seychelles in March next year. Nigeria is just a win away from qualifying for the 2019 Nations Cup in Cameroon with two matches to go against South Africa and Seychelles.
