ARSENAL loanee Kelechi Nwakali has been elevated to the Porto first team after just two appearances for the B squad in pre-season friendlies raising hopes that he will soon feature for the Super Eagles as a fully fledged international.
Currently an Arsenal player, Nwakali joined Porto after the two clubs appeared to agree on a season-long loan as part of a long term plan to get him playing for the Gunners. After spending the last two seasons in Holland, Nwakali is keen to come to England but is unable to play in the Premiership due to work permit issues, which can only be resolved when he gets Super Eagles caps under his belt.
Nwakali, 20, captained Nigeria when the Golden Eaglets won the U-17 World Cup in 2015 and was subsequently signed by Arsenal, who spotted his talent and then loaned him out. After signing him ion loan, Portuguese giants Porto sent Nwakali to their B team but after his scintillating performances in pre-season games, he has now been elevated to the first squad and looks set to feature in the league.
Earlier this week, Nwakali trained with Porto's first team and there are even suggestions that he might make the bench for the main team for their league opener this weekend. Nwakali made himself an option for the first team after scoring and bagging an assist in the two consecutive pre-season games in which he played for the B team.
Another Super eagle, Chigozie Awaziem, also looks set to feature for Porto this season, after returning to the club from his loan spell in France with Nantes. For Golden Eaglets playmaker Musa Yahaya played for the Porto B team in a pre-season game and is yet to be elevated to the first team.
