Derby County manager Frank Lampard looks to sign Ola Aina on season-long loan

DERBY County's new manager Frank Lampard is looking to sign Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina on a season-long loan ahead of the new Championship campaign which kicked off on Friday with the Rams winning their opening match 2-1.

Aina, 21, is a versatile overlapping fullback who although right-footed is also adept at playing on the left. At the last minute, he was dropped from Nigeria's World Cup squad but is seen as someone who is very much part of the future and an integral part of Coach Gernot Rohr's plans.

Officially a Chelsea player, Aina is set to play for Lampard after it was revealed that he is ready to join Derby County on loan despite interest from West Brom. Aina has played six competitive games for Chelsea and spent last season on to Championship side Hull City where he was a regular.

Keen to make his mark in management, Lampard wants to build on yesterday's victory by challenging for promotion and sees Aina as a good addition to his squad to help realise this. Away to Reading, Derby came from a goal down to win the match 2-1, thanks to an injury time winner scored by Tom Lawrence.

Lampard is hoping that the signing of Aina will further fortify the team at the back while he continues to ginger his strikers to go for goals with a view to taking the team to the next level. Aina, a former England Under 20 player, pledged his international future to Nigeria in May 2017 and was subsequently called up to the national team same month.
